Safeguarding Policy - MJS Sports Coaching

1. Introduction

At MJS Sports Coaching, the safety and wellbeing of all participants is our highest priority. We are committed to creating a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment where children and adults at risk can take part in cricket coaching, camps, and related activities without fear of harm, abuse, or neglect.

This safeguarding policy applies to all staff, coaches, volunteers, players, parents/guardians, and third-party contractors engaged with MJS Sports Coaching.
 

2. Our Commitment

MJS Sports Coaching will:

  • Promote the welfare of all children and vulnerable adults

  • Protect participants from harm while in our care

  • Foster an environment in which concerns can be raised and addressed

  • Ensure staff and volunteers are trained and aware of safeguarding responsibilities

  • Work with external partners and authorities when necessary to protect individuals

3. Who This Policy Applies To

 

This policy applies to all:

  • Employees and contracted coaches

  • Volunteers and assistants

  • Participants (children under 18 and adults at risk)

  • Parents, guardians, carers

  • Temporary staff and third-party providers

 

4. Definitions

Child / Young Person: Anyone under the age of 18.

Adult at Risk: Anyone aged 18 or over who is, or may be, unable to take care of themselves because of physical or learning disability, mental health needs, illness, or age.

 

Safeguarding: The action taken to promote the welfare of individuals and protect them from harm.

 

Child Protection: Procedures specifically focused on protecting children at risk of significant harm.

 

5. Safeguarding Principles

 

We will:

  • Treat everyone with respect, dignity, and fairness

  • Take all safeguarding concerns seriously

  • Act promptly when concerns are raised

  • Ensure confidentiality is maintained where appropriate

  • Create safe, supportive environments where participants can thrive

6. Code of Conduct

All staff and volunteers must:

  • Treat participants with respect and kindness

  • Avoid behaviour or language that could be considered inappropriate

  • Refrain from any form of physical or emotional abuse

  • Respect personal space and maintain professional boundaries

  • Never engage in one-to-one situations where they cannot be clearly observed

  • Report any concerns immediately to the Safeguarding Lead

7. Recruitment & Training

We will:

  • Carry out appropriate background and reference checks on all staff and volunteers

  • Provide regular safeguarding training and updates

  • Ensure staff understand how to recognise and respond to signs of harm or abuse

8. Reporting Concerns

If you have a safeguarding concern, about a participant, volunteer, coach, or member of staff, you must report it immediately.

If the Safeguarding Lead is unavailable, concerns should be escalated to senior management or an external authority.

You may also contact external safeguarding agencies as appropriate, including local children’s services, police, or adult safeguarding teams.

9. Responding to Disclosures

If a participant discloses potential abuse:

  • Stay calm and listen carefully

  • Reassure them that they are being taken seriously

  • Do not promise confidentiality — you may need to share information to protect them

  • Record the disclosure accurately and report it to the Safeguarding Lead

10. Record-Keeping

We will:

  • Keep accurate, secure, and confidential records of all safeguarding concerns and actions taken

  • Store records in accordance with data protection laws

  • Only share information on a need-to-know basis

 

11. Reviewing the Policy

This policy will be reviewed annually or when there are significant organisational or regulatory changes.
